GREEKS TO FIGHT ORDINANCE
-----
Will Seek Nullification or Repeal of
Order Barring Fruit and Flower
Stands from Sidewalks.

Greek fruit dealers in the number of 400 will meet tomorrow night in Thompson's hall to discuss plans to secure the repeal of the ordinance which prohibits dealers in fruits and flowers from exhibiting their wares on the sidewalks.  If it is deemed necessary attorneys will be employed and an effort made to have the ordinance declared invalid.

"All we want is a square deal," declared the proprietor of a fruit store at 90 Randolph street.  "They say our stands obstruct the sidewalks, but if you'll look down the street you'll see obstructions far worse than anything in front of my store.  I'd like to see Supt. of Streets Doherty or anyone else in authority and show them some obstructions which the regular florists have on the sidewalk."

There are seven fruit stores within the loop district and about a dozen stands.  A majority of the wholesale fruit men along South Water street are Greeks, and in other parts of the city there are several hundred other retailers.  All these will be asked to join in the proposed organization, the argument being that it is for their mutual protection.
